Two of My Favorite Things

Hello friends! Last Thursday we headed to Martha's Vineyard for a few days to visit one of my daughters. First we stopped in RI to pick up my youngest daughter and from there we drove to the Cape to catch a ferry to Martha's Vineyard. It was a beautiful warm, spring day!

The first thing we did was go to the beach! This beach is a personal favorite of mine as it is most beautiful, with absolutely breathtaking views in either direction . I literally just stand there in complete awe!

The beach is usually empty when we visit because we tend to visit during the months that don't generate crowds; in early spring and early fall. We have been there during the summer months as well but the crowds tend to be a little intimidating.

There is something so heavenly about being completely alone on the beach.  I am absolutely "sea-struck" when I am here. In the event I just made up a new word....well, in my defense, it IS my blog!

Isn't this a beautiful sight?

This rock just begs you to climb. I resisted the urge but my daughter could not.

These pillars used to be part of a larger rock formation. A few years back they were destroyed by a storm. They still look pretty grand to me.

We took a foot path to the other side of the rock formation and from this side it looks a lot like a rhino!

A close up of the rhino head! Can you see it?

(this is a view to the left of the rhino)

It was a fun, action-packed few days on the Vineyard, visiting our daughter, taking a hike in the woods, hitting the beach (I left my bikini home, haha), dining out, and shopping in the cutest little shops. My husband even photographed the sunrise from the roof deck of the hotel, and while I wanted to go with him, I couldn't drag myself out of bed fast enough. From my bed, I did manage to see a beautiful orange/pinkish glow through the window where the curtains parted and therefore experienced the best of both worlds, "sunrise in bed."  When my husband returned, he had a steaming hot cup of coffee for me! :)

It was very warm the first day but also very windy. The second day was still beautiful and a bit chillier. On the day we headed home it was downright cold and my daughter and I were chilled to the bone and could not warm up even once we were home with the heat cranked. So, we made tea! My cup of Earl Grey tea and multiple microwaveable rice paks did the trick! Warmed me right up!

Speaking of tea, it's almost time for the Stephanie's teacup swap reveal! I picked up a couple of things for my swap package in Vineyard Haven. We stayed at an inn there (click here to check out the Mansion House ) and were surrounded by cute little shops. So keep your eyes open for the big teacup/mug reveal which I believe is in early April.  To read more about past teacup swaps and view past reveals at Stephanie's blog, Click here!

My teacup collection is growing! Here are a few.....

Two of my favorite things:

Some much needed time away by the sea,
Returning home and sipping some tea!

Good bye friends! Hope you are having a great week!

    1. Hi Dany,

It's been a nice week so far. My youngest daughter is home visiting for the week and we are enjoying that!

Oh the sea always speaks to my heart! In fact it is calling me now and I am at least 2 hrs away from the coast. Would love to retire somewhere close to the sea! All of my daughters live in coastal areas so at least we have nice places to visit for now!

Thanks for stopping by, wishing you a very Happy Easter as well and sending lots of love!

    1. Dear Jemma!!!
Thank you! we had three lovely days despite the dropping temperature! We knew it was coming so we did the "beachy stuff" on the warmest day! The beaches are really beautiful there....and plentiful, being an island! Yes, it was a much needed break from reality and it was a nice visiting my middle daughter. The four of us had a wonderful time!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful Easter weekend too Jemma!
      Sending love,
      Linda

  3. Oh Linda, what a fun getaway to Martha's Vineyard. I would be "sea-struck", too, if I had a chance to be there.
I loved seeing your growing collection of teacups, and saw the one that I gave you in there. How fun to buy some fun things in the shops for Stephanie's exchange. I mailed my box off to my recipient and it was such fun to pick out gifts.
Happy Easter blessings to you, sweet friend.

    1. Hi Kitty!!
It was fun! It has been a year since our last visit. I enjoyed being with my family though my oldest daughter was under the weather and could not join us as planned. :(

I mailed my package out Tuesday! It is always fun to pack up the gifts and ship them out! Most of the fun is in the shopping though!!! The little shop that I usually find plenty of teacups in did not have any this time and I was at a loss. So we shopped during the trip!

Looking forward to seeing everyone's treasures soon! Hope you have a nice Easter weekend Kitty! Thanks for stopping by. It's always nice to hear from you!

  5. The vineyard is one of my fav places to visit in the Fall. Like you, I much prefer the beach when it's not crowded.

How nice that you got to spend such quality time with your daughters in such a lovely place, doing the things that make you happy.

It's the strangest thing Linda, but I tried to visit a few times over these last few weeks and was taken to a Blogger sign in page! Looks like it's all fixed now.

(I just noticed I'm in your sidebar. Thank you so much for including me, but would you mind changing the blog from househoneys to foxdenrd?).

    Have a wonderful Easter Linda!

    1. Hi Doreen,
Thanks for visiting me last night and thank you for your nice comment!! The vineyard is absolutely one of my favorite places too!!!

Yes, I cannot get the Househoney link to disappear from my sidebar. When I go to edit, it shows Foxdenrd, househoneyes does not even appear in the list, but no matter how many times I retry, save and refresh, it won't switch over to foxdenrd. Also when I clicked on the link to foxdenrd in your profile, it took me to a page that clearly had your foxdenrd header but it said there were no posts. In a few seconds it redirected to the right place. Grrr, wish I had some answers. LOL! I'll keep trying.

I hope you have a nice Easter too Doreen!

  6. Awe... this was a beautiful post, Linda. It was as if I was walking along the beach with you. Boy, wouldn't that be wonderful?! I too love the beach when it is quiet. My husband and I will be going to Canada to visit family the first two weeks of June, and I plan on spending God and Debbie time walking the beach some of those days, if not every day. . My husband and his father will be going to the Crokinole Championship Tournament. It is always held the first weekend of June.

Your teacup collection is quite beautiful, Linda. How wonderful to have been able to shop in those little shops for your lady. She will be blessed in deed, I'm sure, as I was once the blessed recipient from you.
I chose to do the mug as well this time, and so happy that I did. I have already sent out to my ladies and they have received their package, but I am still waiting with butterflies at the post office daily for my package to arrive. :)

Have a beautiful Easter, my friend.
    Much Love, Debbie

    1. Hi Debbie,
Yes that would be wonderful! Someday I hope!!! I'd even settle for chatting with you over a cup of tea!!! :) How nice your trip to Canada sounds! I love Canada and we have not been in quite a few years. I hope you have a great time visiting family with your husband!

Thank you! My collection is growing. I couldn't fit them all in. Anxiously waiting for my latest addition!!! I sent my package out on Tuesday! I almost did the mug swap too but my cupboard has just so much room and it is overflowing now. Can't wait to see your new cup and mug! Having you as a recipient was a blessing for me as well Debbie!

I hope you have a wonderful Easter Debbie!
      Love,
      Linda

  7. How nice for you to be able to visit with your daughters and also enjoy such a beautiful place! When I was a kid I used to wonder if the beach liked it better when no one was there or when it was packed with people. How silly I was! Great picture of the rhino! Looks like you were able to make some wonderful memories! BTW, Sea-struck is the perfect word to describe how you feel!
    Have a great Easter!

    1. LOL Diane....I never wondered about that! I can only speak for myself, I prefer it to be empty....once I was laying on a crowded beach and a kite came down fast and furious and hit me in the stomach. I had my eyes closed so I never even saw it coming! It really hurt and it was embarrassing! Yah, I like an empty beach!!!!!

Yes, we did have a nice visit. I didn't want to leave.....Wishing you and your family a nice Easter weekend Diane! Enjoy!

  8. Oh how wonderful to go visit your daughter and enjoy the beautiful beach too, I do love being at the water and like you said when it is quiet and you have it to yourself it is that much more soothing and peaceful!! Yes this time of year you can have a really nice day or back to winter weather, glad you had some nice time in there on your visit!

    1. Yes, it was a much needed retreat, though a bit brief but we had to get home for another commitment....wished we could have stayed longer, but we will go again relatively soon, before the large crowds arrive! You are right--it is much more soothing and peaceful!!! For sure!!! Our weather has been back and forth lately, it was chilly and very windy yesterday, today it is warmer but still windy. But I am not complaining because winter was so easy on us this year! Have a nice Easter! I will try to get over to see what you've been up to some time tonight!

  9. Oh my! Such a delightful time that you had... oh how I LOVE the ocean, and I too could just spend hours gazing out upon the pounding waves, hearing the cries of the seagulls, and the rustle of the winds. Visiting the beach is always optimal when no one else is there, I agree! Such a lovely getaway that you all had, and to relax and enjoy being with your family too, just wonderful! I can only imagine how chilled you were getting home, and needing a nice cup of tea, and i just have to agree with your two favorite things!! Your teacup collection is beautiful! I have a delightful teacup assortment but right now they are packed in storage, as I don't have room here to display them. Sounds like you had great fun with sending off your package, as did I! All the precious teacups that are traveling around the country right now, can you imagine? Enjoyed a delightful visit with you tonight! May the Lord bless your Easter if I don't get back by here before then! :)

    1. Hi Marilyn,
Looks like I missed this comment. Yes, a quiet (preferably deserted) beach is my go to place for solitude, rejuvenation etc. Sending off these tea packages is always so much fun. I'm so glad Stephanie does this twice a year! Looking forward to seeing what everyone received! Take care!!
      Love,

  10. I think your word "sea-struck" is a brilliant word!! Clever you....it should be in the dictionary! =) What a gorgeous beach. Your photos are stunning. The ocean is always such a stunning place to visit and relax and soak up all that glorious beauty! I love all those teacups. Isn't it the best fun collecting these pretties....and isn't it even more fun to take part in the teacup exchange and 'glamp' by the postbox in anticipation for the arrival of a new pretty teacup from some part of the world. I hope you are enjoying a lovely Easter, Linda.

    1. Hi Kim,
Just catching up with comments! I don't know if I just missed a couple or if they somehow got deleted.....at any rate, I'm so glad you stopped by. Yes, I adore this beach and when I am there, I just don't want to leave. I too love the teacup swap. My package has not arrived yet but I do go running to the mailbox every day!!! LOL! Take care, looking forward to see the contents of everyone's packages!

  11. Hi Linda - your day at the beach sounds absolutely wonderful! I grew up near there in Plymouth county (and so did my hubby). One of the things I miss the most (there are many things I miss) are the beautiful beaches. Horse-neck and Duxbury were two of my favorites. Your teacup collection is so wonderful. I am just beginning to collect teacups and this is my first teacup exchange. I see that we have many lovely blogger friends in common! Thank you for your sweet visit and kind comments. I hope that you have a good week and that you didn't get hit too hard by the recent storm! xx Karen

    1. Hi Karen,
Ah, Plymouth is one of our family's favorite spots and when my children were younger we spent a week there every summer. It's so beautiful! I am familiar with Duxbury Beach, White Horse, I think maybe Priscilla Beach too...don't remember Horse-Neck unless it is part of White Horse?? Every year that we went, my girls had to go in the wax museum and it became such a tradition. One year we went back and were so sad to see it had been turned into condos. :( We still try to get back there for at least a long weekend every year.....Yes, I am having fun collecting teacups and the swaps are so much fun. So glad you joined in....The storm wasn't bad but yesterday it snowed all day and we still have 4" on the ground. But it will melt quickly....Have a great rest of the week and enjoy your teacup package!!!
      xx
