Getting Back in the Swing of Things

Latest sewing project

It's hard to believe that my last post was nearly one month ago. I spent as many days and nights as possible with my mom while she stayed in the hospital. I actually lost count but I think she was hospitalized for 13 days and I believe I slept in a recliner in various lounges and waiting rooms for at least 9 of those nights.

Surprisingly, the chairs were very comfortable but occasionally they folded up on me while I was sleeping in them which was a little disconcerting. They were also noisy and I was afraid of waking up other exhausted people trying to catch a few winks while they waited for news about their loved ones.

My mom was transferred locally and it is so much easier having her in town as she rehabs and it's wonderful to be able to crawl into my own bed at night; it makes all the difference in the world.. She is doing much better and I cannot begin to thank you all for your lovely messages, emails and prayers while she has been ill. THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH!

This tote bag is the only thing I have sewn in the past month. I worked on it one evening when I came home from the hospital to do laundry and pack clean clothes. I finished it during another overnight at home.

I utilized some vintage doilies and I made a flower from fabric and lace to add as an accent. A little tiny button is in the center of the flower.

Flower Accent

The bag also has a lace tie which can be used to secure the tote a bit, or tucked inside when not in use.

Lace tie

It is lined in a tiny white on white fabric with generous pockets running the width of the bag and divided in half for convenience and organization.

It is smaller in size than my usual large totes and measures about 14 x 15. The straps are long enough to carry in hand or throw over the shoulder.

It will be listed in my etsy shop very soon.

Though I am way behind in production for my ETSY shop,  time has been well spent with my mom as she recovered in the hospital and now as she rehabs her way back home to us. Many thanks for your support during this time. It is very much appreciated.

    1. Thank you Kitty, I hope that you had a nice Thanksgiving! I thought of you today as I just packed up your sweet little pumpkin and put it away with my fall decorations. Time for the Christmas decorations now--I am a bit behind as we usually put up our tree the day after Thanksgiving and we haven't gotten to it yet! Thank you for your sweet comment Kitty! My mom is doing remarkably well! Have a lovely week! xo

  2. Dear Linda,
I am thankful that your Mom is recovering well and that you are now able to settle back into your routine and be back in your own bed.
There is just something about being back to your own surroundings that is so comforting and restful. When I went to California for those 3 weeks, it was such a blessing because of the time spent with my family and helping them but, goodness I did miss my routine and cozy bed!
Your tote is beautiful and I know that is made to perfection as well!
    Happy Thanksgiving Dear Linda!

    1. Hi Jemma!
Yes, there is much to be said about being in one's own surroundings! Though I still visit my mom once or twice a day, at least I can stay on top of some things at home too. Haven't been able to find the time for blogging but hope to get a post up this week. Thank you for your kind words regarding my mom and the tote! Sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! Loved seeing your photos! xo

  3. Dear Linda, I am so glad to hear your mom is doing better and improving. I pray that rehab helps to bring her back to better health soon.
I know what a comfort it is to be back in your own bed. So hope you can get some rest in the days ahead. I love your beautiful totes. My goodness they are gorgeous with the special details you add. I know your work is done with excellence. I just placed one of the white angels from you in my sun catcher this week for the holidays. The sun catcher has become the perfect spot and size to display these little darlings. I think of you as I walk by and a good time to say a little prayer.
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving week and again so glad your mother is doing better.
    Big Hugs xo

    1. Good morning Celeste,
Thank you, my mom is rehabbing well and there is talk for her release soon. So thankful for that! We celebrated Thanksgiving at the nursing home. They did a wonderful job of making it extra special for the families that were present! There was a lovely happy hour with a wine bar, appetizers etc and then a traditional Thanksgiving meal with a dessert bar. I was pleasantly surprised! Thank you for you kind comment re: my bags! Sadly I have not had time to do much sewing and I am missing it terribly! Thank you for your prayers too! We have been blessed beyond words! Love and hugs!

  7. I just discovered your blog while visiting another.... SO happy to hear your mom is doing better and you are able to get some healing sleep for your self. I do love that tote bag. I LOVE old doilies... which is why I opened an antique shop many years ago. That is a great use for them and so nice other folks will be able to enjoy them too.
