Family Leave

Hello dear friends! I have missed you all. Unfortunately we have a family member who is extremely ill and I have been staying with her in the hospital which happens to be about 60 miles away from my home. My husband has been helping out a lot and taking care of things at home.

I started carrying my computer there, but it has become too much to lug-- the patient has been moved around alot, out of critical care, to general care and then back to critical care. I am happy to report she is being moved back to the general floor today. But I will have to leave my computer home to lighten the load I am carrying around. It's probably just as well because I never had an opportunity to post on my blog anyways.

I have my phone so I will try to answer emails but I would appreciate any prayers or positive thoughts you could send our way. We have a long road ahead.

I look forward to being back among my blog friends. Take care!

Time for the Teacup and Mug Swap Reveal

I've made no secrets about a little obsession of mine:  vintage and vintage-style tea cups! I love them! I am collecting them! That is why joining in with all the lovely ladies in Stephanie's Tea cup and Mug Swap is a no brainer for me.

(Stephanie blogs at The Enchanting Rose. Her blog is full of wonderful recipes, craft and sewing projects, book reviews, inspiration and faith!)

Stephanie's teacup and mug swap doubly wonderful because besides receiving a beautiful tea cup every time I participate, I also have the joy of shopping for another lady who shares my obsession. How fun is that? None of us really know which is more fun.....the giving or the receiving! But I can tell you that the whole experience from waiting for Stephanie to give us the name and address of our recipient, to anticipating a tea cup package in the mail, waiting to hear that our carefully wrapped packages have been received, to emailing and chatting with our givers and recipients and ultimately reading about the reveals--it is a couple of weeks of good old-fashioned, kid-styled fun! Truly, it's like being a kid again and I just love it! I am so grateful that Stephanie arranges this for all of us. She is a blogger's blessing for sure!

 THANK YOU STEPHANIE!

The person I had the pleasure of buying a tea cup for is Marilyn who blogs at Mountain Top Spice. I purchased a tea cup for her at a favorite local antique shop.

Here is the tea cup I gave to Marilyn! I fell in love with the unique shape of the cup and the rose design inside and out.

These are the other goodies I packaged with the teacup.

I packed it all up, sent her an email to let her know it was coming and we have exchanged several emails since then and she sent me the sweetest handmade thank you note and bookmark. So sweet! It is such a fun way of meeting and getting to know someone!

It has been a pleasure getting to know Marilyn. She has a lovely blog and her adventures living in the Idaho woods with her menagerie of animals is fun to follow along. She has chickens, which is a bit of a dream of mine, but my husband, unfortunately does not share that particular dream! So I am living out my chicken dreams vicariously through Marilyn!

NOW....for the teacup I received as well as the gift of friendship from another blogger, Kitty who blogs at Kitty's Cozy Kitchen. Just as you might imagine from the title of her blog, she has some incredible recipes and her photos are sweet-- kind of retro/vintage and she zooms in so close to oozing butterscotch frosting that it makes you want to whip up a batch at very late hours of the night. Yes, I nearly did that one evening, close to midnight but I grabbed a hold of my senses. Yesterday I purchased some ingredients to make a batch of her snickerdoodles. YUM! Hopefully I will find some time this weekend to whip some up.

Here is the teacup I received from Kitty! I love the color combination of browns and yellows. The gold edge is always such an elegant touch. I just love it!

Isn't it lovely!

....and look at all the goodies that came with it!

All my favorite fall colors, flavors and scents....ginger snaps are one of my favorite cookies. I am still searching for a ginger snap recipe that produces a crunchy cookie!

Look at the adorable pumpkin that Kitty crocheted! It's so cute! There is also a sweet Autumn dish towel which hangs in my kitchen, some delicious chai tea--pumpkin spice flavored, and a votive candle which I burned right away with my first cup of tea. The tea was delicious. I did not even know that Twinings had Chai tea in a Pumpkin Spice variety. I will be adding that to my grocery list this week because I am almost out of the tea already. I drink a lot of tea!

What an amazing box full of autumn blessings!

I received the nicest little note from Kitty on a sweet vintage autumn note card pictured above right. We have also exchanged several emails since the swap. Many, many thanks to Kitty for this wonderful collection of autumn gifts.....and each item was so very carefully packed!

and this lovely, lovely teacup, I will treasure it!

All this talk of tea......think I shall go have a tea party all by myself! ......which reminds me of this little ditty....

"I had a little tea party
this afternoon at three,
twas very small,
three guests in all,
just I, myself and me.

Myself ate all the sandwiches
While I drank up the tea,
Twas also I who ate the pie,
and passed the cake to me."

Some Leaf Peeping and a Couple of Projects

Yesterday, my husband and I took a drive about an hour south and drove through some beautiful New England towns in all their fall glory. I thought about bringing my camera but it's just so easy to pack lightly and rely on the phone camera.....which I did.....with regrets!

The colors are really showing in all their splendor now. It happened rather quickly. Earlier in the week, trees were mostly golden. Now there are some of the most beautiful shades of red! Driving on roads lined with beautifully colored trees is an experience all itself.

This spot still had a lot of green but it was a golden shade of green, not quite completely gold, but it glowed in the sun! I love the golden shades. My backyard is completely golden!

This was a beautiful spot though my phone camera did not capture it at all. There were several canoes out there. If you look really closely you can see canoes at about 11:00 and 12:00 in the photo. I didn't get out of the car to take this photo as it was a very narrow road and there were also cars behind us.

It was such a perfect fall day for a drive and for leaf peeping. The roads were very busy and every place that we stopped was mobbed by hikers, picnickers and leap peepers.

Today my husband has returned to the area to hike about 15 miles along some trails that he has been hiking on Fridays all summer and early fall. This past Friday was a rainy day so he returned today to do some hiking.

I stayed home to complete some projects. Here's what I have been working on:

A more traditional version of my angel.....I've added two layers of tulle to her wings.

and some more little Christmas tree ornaments....

This is actually a set of 3 ornaments. Can you guess what the third ornament says?

"How lovely are your branches".....I have loved that song since I was a very little girl.

This particular set of tree ornaments is constructed from a deconstructed vintage pillowcase. Even the tree trim is made from the tatted edging of the pillow. They are very sweet.

Well I have a lot of work to do today while my husband is off hiking in the woods so I'm going to let you go and wish you a wonderful long weekend if you are lucky enough to have one! Even if you aren't, there's still plenty of two day weekend left so get outside and enjoy this beautiful fall day. The sun is shining,

AND.....

.......it's going to be 80 degrees later in the week. How is this possible you ask? The simple answer is because I got up nice and early this morning to pack away all of my summer clothes. I knew if I packed them away, it would warm up again! So, you are welcome! ENJOY!

Mums the Word!

Hello friends! Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. There are some nasty bugs going around, and what's going around, unfortunately came around! I have had "something" since last Wednesday and I cannot seem to shake it!

On one of my better days my husband suggested we hop into the car and go for a ride. We ended up at our favorite farm, "Walker Farm" in Vermont. It's really not too far from here and it was such a nice day for a ride.

Look at all these mums! I got the dreaded question...."which colors do you want?" When I have too many choices I am not always quick with decision making! We ended up getting some of each!

I love mums, that's for sure! But I also love other fall produce like pumpkins, gourds and squash....

I just like looking at them all.....

I especially love butternut  and acorn squash. I baked my first acorn squash of the season the other night and it was delish! I can't wait to make squash and pumpkins soups!

These are some fine looking specimens!

This truck full of gorgeous red mums was sitting out front! My husband and I just loved the truck! I had to take a photo!

Now if I could just get healthy again to get my beautiful mums into the ground. I did manage to unload them from the back of my car. That is about as far as I got. They are neatly lined up on our retaining wall out front.

Hoping for a better day tomorrow! Goodnight friends!

Vintage Delight

Bag of goodies

I went on a quest to find some vintage laces and fabrics over the weekend and stopped at an antique barn in Vermont that I have never stopped at before. It looks a bit uninviting from the outside so we have passed it by on other trips through the town. For some reason this time I asked my husband to turn around so we could stop there and I am so glad I did. I will definitely be going back there again!

See that bag full of goodies above? Let me show you what's in there! I apologize for the lighting. It was a very bright, beautiful sunny day!

First let me show you this broomstick lace throw! It is beautiful creamy off white! It caught my eye within seconds of walking into the barn. It is in mint condition!.......and it gets better!

There were two! I knew I was not leaving the shop without these beauties! They are very large and no pulls, snags, holes or stains! I did a little happy dance!

Then I found lace! Lots of lace trimming!

There are several yards of this pale pink lace, and it is gorgeous! I snatched that right up!

This photo shows the actual color of the lace better. It is a lovely pale pink!

Then there was this piece of white gathered lace. There is about 2 yards. It will be perfect for my angel ornaments! So pretty!

I found this pretty piece of ecru lace which is absolutely beautiful! It has large roses on it!

This is another bunch of ecru ruffled lace. There is several yards here!

....and here is some off white cotton flat lace trim that I can use for many of my sewing projects.

I am loving my lace purchases and the beautiful cotton lace throws are just the icing on my lace cake! Tomorrow I am going to gently launder my throws. Then I am just going to stare at them!
