Love and Lace--Some Tidbits From the Past

Yesterday afternoon I stopped by an antique shop searching for small vintage doilies. I didn't find any doilies but I did score a beautiful, in new condition, crisp, white vintage sheet that was included in a bag of vintage pillowcases. It has a sweet crocheted edging at the top. Ironically I have been looking for a set of sheets and watching for them online but they have been pretty pricey. Considering I thought I paid $10 for a bag of 5 or 6 pillowcases but ended up with a sheet, I think I made out on the deal.

I also purchased 4 antique postcards, two of which were postmarked 1910. Their beauty attracted me to pick them up but the sentiments in the words written on the back sealed the deal. How could I leave such lovingly written words behind? The answer is quite simple. I couldn't! So they are now mine to treasure! Let's take a closer look.....

This was the first one I picked up. It was love at first sight!

This one is also beautiful! There is rose colored fabric (maybe silk? I'm not sure) under the rose.

So sweet....

Very cute!

Postmarked Pennsylvania, 1910.

Postmarked Cambridge, MA 1910.

With best love....sigh....

My sheets and pillowcases with assorted lovely edgings, (sheets are 180 ct combed cotton)

Let's take a better look at the edgings. These were just freshly washed and folded but not yet ironed so I apologize for the wrinkles.

The photo above is a full sized bed sheet! Lovely, crisp and bright white!

I am so happy with my latest purchase of vintage/antique treasures. I am so charmed by these little tidbits from the past.

  1. Isn't that bluebird sweet! You do find the most charming items, or they find you because they know you'll treasure them.

I love the sheets and old cotton fabrics last forever, maybe because the items were made then to hold up under the rough washing machines? All of the trimming on yours are works of art!

    1. Hi Dewena,
Yes, I love that postcard with the little bluebird! I think you are right, they find me! Then they call me!!! I am really amazed at the newness of the sheet and pillowcases. I don't think they were used. I love the crispness of the cotton. So nice! Thanks for stopping by. I would've thought you'd still be recovering from your big celebration, lol. The food was amazing!!!

  3. Many years ago a very dear older lady we knew and loved gave our oldest daughter who was itty bitty at the time a collection of old postcards. I am sure I recognized some of them in the ones you purchased. :) Now I need to hunt for our album that I put them in for safe keeping as it seems it would be FUN to remember them. :) Your sheet is so pretty with all that dainty lace on the edging.

Those older cards have such detail and beauty in them. My mother has a memory book of all her older cards and I just love looking at them.
Enjoy your new treasures, especially that sheet.

    1. Yes Debbie, I love the edgings on the pillowcases and the sheet. The cotton is very nice too. I love the crispness! My grandmother had a couple of albums full of old cards and as little girl it kept me busy for hours looking through them. Thanks Debbie, I am enjoying them!

  7. Good Morning Linda, What a wonderful time you had browsing and finding such treasures. All of the postcards are beautiful, but I think my favourite is the rose postcard....as roses are my favourite flower.
The bed sheet and pillowcases are beautiful. Cotton is the very best to put on the bed as it becomes softer with age and your bed linen must be beautifully soft.
Nowadays there is so much aimed at us to buy, but like you, I love owning something which has been pre-loved. Enjoy your treasures.
    Have an lovely day today.
    Best Wishes

  8. Hi Daphne,
Yes the rose postcard is so pretty with the fabric under it....I love them all really! Now I want to find some more. I put the sheet on my bed, it felt so nice! Many of the sheets you find today just aren't that nice of a cotton. I love this one....I want to find a fitted one as well. How nice of you to stop by while you are busy with your travels. Enjoy Daphne! Thanks for your lovely comment.

  10. Linda,
First off, once again you have an eye for such beautiful treasures and details. These postcards are stunning and oh these sheets must feels so good to cover up in on a Summer night. This post made me think of Mom and how she always hung our sheets out on the clothes line and then they would smell so good! I think that I will have a clothes line at our new house, there is something that makes a person sleep better under crisp cotton sheets.
I am enjoying following you on IG!
